Another DGC member sent me a PDF of the Three a Light book since he has a copy. They discuss performing what they refer to as “schwazzing” on days 1 and 20 of flower. The idea behind this is to remove every single large fan leaf to expose every bud site. This seems to me as it would stress the plant out quite a bit, and why would you want to remove your solar panels? The photos are impressive but I’d love to hear some conversation about this from The Dude, Scotty, Guru and The DGC.
Shade/Fan/Sucker leaves don’t grow bud. The nodes is where the calyx form. Some growers call sucker leaves that because you’re a sucker to leave them on after a certain point. 😉 In nature those leaves are the first to go with limited resources. In our gardens with every need met, they will stay green the whole run. Outdoors in nature, they’d get used up and fall off. Those leaves stop collecting energy at a certain point and start costing the plant energy.
As brownguy420 says, you aren’t growing leaves, you’re growing buds. Stripping down to the last picture does look extreme. Removing leaves to expose light to bud sites is a good idea, though.

I wonder if it would be also helpful for flush. The plant uses up what’s left in the leaves. If the big fan leaves aren’t there to leach nutrients into the plant, would it take more from the remaining leaves and plant material faster or at a higher rate?
I my self prefer to be able to put my girls,back thru veg… All strains are different though I happen to know if this one they call it duke nukem (not real duke by Ken but that’s another story)that it can be harvested and when put back she is growing new growth within a week and doesn’t seem to grow any different only thing to watch their is hermies on your lower branch sites that have restricted light is love to hear if anyone has noticed this themselves
I also brought up the “one node and flip question” I’m going to try this but not so extreme. I will leave 10% of the fan leaves on to be able to spot deficiencies if they arise. So….pdf huh? My dm is open😉😉

I have heard of this before and I remember it being said, that to make sure to be feeding with a carb at this time also because you are loosing a lot of stored carbs by removing the fan leaves? If you are using recharge every watering you should be ok I would think, because it has a carb included. Just keep a close eye on your plant, if it looks like it isn’t bouncing back quickly maybe add a sweetener when watering.

Frankly I think that kind of sketchy marketing makes our whole industry look bad.
If this guy really is getting 3lbs a light, he should go back to moving weight and leave the educating to people that actually give a shit about teaching and promoting knowledge in our community, not just making money.
It works: no question about it. I went from 300 gm to 400 gm with a bunch of random freebies mostly. Longer flower because they need a bit of extra recovery time, but who gives a shit. Less to trim at harvest, more to trim at trim. You would be foolish not to.
