Has anyone read about or tried using lights for pest management? This company (INTRALIGHT) claims to be able to be able to treat up to 64 cubic feet of canopy for spider mites, thrips , bud rot, PM etc…by emitting a specific light spectrum. Could this possibly work to the level that they claim and would the light emitted affect plants in flower? This seems too good to be true.
Don’t buy the toy.
I sit here and have so many things to say….. but I’ll try and be short
1) The “light” treatment occurs at night – What spectrum and what duration? Plants don’t like light interruptions to the dark cycle.
2) What duration and what intensity is needed to kill a soft bodied insect like they claim? They don’t provide this information nor do they account for light obstruction from the canopy. Will this light really kill a spider-mite infestation at the top of your plant 3ft away from the light source? I think not.
3) They don’t divulge their technology, simply saying it is “proprietary”, which is a cop out. Science or hobbyists are not able to review and confirm this technology. Basically, they have spooky voodoo magic and they wont share the magic information with you.
4)Its a 6watt light and it costs $200.
5)If you still think this is an effective, game changing IPM tool, I have a bridge to sell you too 😉
I’ve looked at their “case studies” and “peer reviews” and um…. no. Intelligent gardeners should be able to connect the dots if looking into this product. My vote is a solid no, don’t waste $200. Spend that money keeping a clean grow room and prevent many of these issues.
P.S. Don’t forget, not all plants do well with certain spectrums (wavelengths) of light.
I know that UV light can help eliminate some pm and probably bud rot too, but the application is pretty particular as it can also kill off DNA. Also don’t look at it!

How about this, do we need to put our plants possibly closer to the lake so they are getting sanitized naturally? The powdery mildew I see out in my yard will always be in a shaded spot for the most part. When the sun changes in the fall. I’ll get it on my Columbine.
I mean imagine these guys just figured out penetration with a simple ring light, where these light companies have been battling it for years. And if this technology actually worked why isn’t it being used on grow lights instead of at the base of the plant. ??? I can’t imagine this working past the lower branches.
