Hey DGC! Could you guys explain the uses of Yucca and Silica in a grow? Why and how would I use these two different products? Thanks for the info and helping the world grow!

Yucca extracts are typically used as a surfactant/wetting agent to help other elements like silica evenly distribute across a leaf surface and throughout a media. Yucca and silica are both alkaline and will raise pH. Silica, like carbon, can create bonds on 4 sides. This is why you need to be careful using silica. It can be used at a rate up to about 60 ppm with RO. Silica can be used at a rate between 30-40 when you’re using it with other minerals. Always add silica to water with as low minerals as possible. Silica can easily cause more harm than good so it should not be misused.
Yucca is used in foliar applications to evenly coat the leaf and avoid droplets forming. In the soil it helps water make it through the medium evenly instead of making it through more in one spot than another. Also helps with rehydrating dry medium. Silica helps to toughen up the plant for training and against pests.
Silicic acid can be taken up as a foliar, products like power Si and Aptus Fasilitor.
Products like rhino skin and protekt haven’t been broken down to their available form. They need to be broken down in the root zone.
I’ve read Agricultural studies that showed a foliar of potassium silicate was beneficial in preventing PM because it changed leaf surface pH.
Power SI is the shit! For yucca check out Therm X-70. Top shelf. I use it directly in soil. A little goes a long way.
