Hey all,
I typically dry in the mid 60/60 range 2 weeks then jar and burp then extract.
When (mason) jar curing/burping, how long am I supposed to burp for? I’ve been doing it 1-2 times a day for about a week until the jar lid does not “pop” when removed. Recently (a couple/few weeks later) I’ve noticed a couple of the jar lids had a decent “pop” when removed, where a couple others with the same material did not do the “pop”.
Are there jar lids with relief valves like on coffee bags to relive the pressure and “self burp”? I’ve found vacuum lids for use with a hand pump (same as my coffee bean storage can) but thinking the pressure build up wouldn’t be enough to evacuate it all.
Would hang drying for an extra week avoid the need for burping?
If doing an ethanol extraction, can I “speed dry” the plant? Thinking food dehydrator, paper bag, or?
Thanks.
Leave the bud in 60/60 for at least 3 weeks and then during week 4 it’s ok to go down to 50% RH. Burping is ignorant at best and is a good way to ruin flower. Buds off gas for about 3-4 weeks. Why would you seal bud after only 2 weeks forcing you to burp the jars because they’re full of CO2 and water vapor? This is what I ask growers who do this old timer dumb shit. After a month you can seal bud in a container for years without issue in the right environment. Growers need to stop being so fucking impatient that they ruin months of hard work because they heard burping jars was the way to go.
That’s going to be the difference between the industry and amateurs. Sure bud grown at home is superior but nobody has the time or patience to do proper cures the big guys can do to scale.
I’m not sure about the sealed bud for years is still good tho. I can tell the difference in dispensary weed big time. Something that was harvested in may, then tested in august tastes leagues better than something harvested in march, tested june. If a dispensary can’t move the product fast enough it fades hard.
and its kept in optimal conditions. Not one of those dispensaries that leave shit out in the clear old tymey glass medicine jars else that would factor in.
spent close to 7k last year trying over 40 different strains so I’ll be happy to put my palate or fist full of receipts up for debate. The industry lies to you that weed stays good for 6 months+
You making rso? Many better extraction methods than alcohol unless you’re doing rso.
