Hello, I was going to follow Mr. Canucks coco coir then spoil mix as I think he mixes soil in the final pot. However I thought maybe I would just add perlite into my soil to try and give the benefits. I’d like to have some coco coir mixture to help with pests, and the air in the soil. Any minute ideas? I have Earth Dust, Recharge, worm castings and more.
Dry amendments in coco coir or soil and what kind?

I believe Matt usually chooses one or the other ( soil/coco amended w/dry organics & worm castings) and sticks to what he chose for that grow. I do a similar method and the only time I do a medium change is when transplanting clones/seedings after rooting and wouldn’t recommend a switch if it possible to avoid. I have added coco to soil mixes to add some of the qualities coco offers without any big problems, waterings change with some coco added. I suggest going with a fairly basic amendment mix to hunt and once you have a keeper then experiment with adding more to see the differences and choose according to your likes. Main thing is to not get behind on reamending or they will stunt for a bit without an emergency tea. Keep a log and wear a mask when top dressing. Teas would be the one thing I’d go with from the start as well. Stay on the watering and top dressings and then you just got to keep an eye out for pest/diseases once you get your grow down.
I mean either way you could work with topdressing. I’ go with a company called green gro. They have a weekly veg and bloom topdress that I use for my meat and potatoes. Then I add some extras into it. Build a soil has an amazing recipe and the results speak for itself. It’ really depends what route you want to go. Organics takes a min to dial in.
What works for someone else might not work for you. There are a lot of factors that play a huge roll in the plants life style.
You could use either or but soil has microbes already that help with the breakdown of organic material while coco will need them added (recharge or some worm castings). mixing the two works but you’ll need to find the ratio that works best for you. Also you can take something from organics and move it to synthetics and been find but the other way around doesnt work as well. if you go from soil to coco or vise versa and keep with an organic system then i think it should be fine. overall organics have been really easy on me.
If you add anything to your coco that is a mineral I would PH low low for alittle bit……if you really wanna be accurate test the runoff a few days later.
Glacial Rock Dust. Highly recommend. It’s the Cal/Mag show stopper. Cheers 🍻
