Hey Dude and Scotty, I am a new listener and I loving the show so far! I have an interesting topic I would like your input on if you have any. Recently I stumbled on a guy named Joe Pietri that is raving on facebook about this new “great” light cycle. I joined his closed facebook group called “Joe Pietri 12-1 advanced growing techniques” to see what it was all about. The short version is this, in veg he uses 12hrs on, 5 1/2hrs off, 1hr on, 5 1/2 hrs off. In Flower he uses 6hrs on, 18hrs off. He claims he is getting 75% off production costs, 30-40% more production all while cutting veg and flower time by up to 25%. Seems like too good to be true. Have you guys ever heard anything about this? Thanks in advance and keep the great shows coming!

Any dark period longer than 12 hours will initiate and maintain flower. In my opinion, you will not get more yield from a given plant that was under 6 hours light vs 12 hours. You may shorten the flower cycle slightly for some strains with 18 hours dark. But any uninterrupted dark period is going to be one day worth of maturation time for the plant. An 18 hour dark period does not equal 1.5 days maturation time.
The 12 on, 5 1/2 off, 1 on, 5 1/2 off is called the gas lamp routine. You won’t notice any change in yields (at least I have never seen any improvement for veg vs the standard 18/6 with mj). It will work if your looking to lower your bill during veg – but my side by side was better with the 18/6. The only thing I’ve found it good for is limiting the stretch on Sativas grown indoor which was pretty cool.
Now if you have a vegetable garden going there I have actually seen improvements in my vegetative stuff (lettuces, brocoli, non flowering herbs) while lowering my light requirements and thus my bill, but absolutely no change for any fruiting type of veggies or flowering herbs.
mo…12-1 is designed to save you money instead of running 18 for veg or 16 you will use only 13 hours 3-5 hours in electric and thats money of your in buisness
