Hi guys,
I bought Brother’s Grimm Durban Thai/C99 seeds. They suggest letting it just Christmas tree. What would be the reasoning for this and not topping or other types of low/high stress to maximize yield? Great show – always look forward to the next one!!!
Not too sure about that particular plant so I went to their site and it kind of looks like it grows pretty well and big as it is , it also says to cut off the bottom branches as it grows so that kind of tells you that if it can take all that stress then it can probably be trained too . If you bought the nine pack then you could low stress one and leave one alone to see . I find leaving the plants alone and not stressing them makes them so much easier to grow . If you have the space and environment available , you can plant all 9 of them and just increase the yield , at 25 bucks for 9 seeds ( their site price) it’s much more affordable than most so you would only be out a few bucks and some time loss . Only one way to find out !
Thank you for your help!!!
I’ve not grown that cross (but it sounds nice) before, however, some strains will grow naturally into that candelabra shape. Some strains don’t have much side branching and if left untopped, you will have a larger cola / more yield. Some strains have weaker limbs and can’t support excess weight that may come from the increased bud production after topping.
Having written many product descriptions and grow reports, sometimes it’s juts how the person grew it during the test grows. Which at the end of the day just boils down to preference.
Without a crystal ball, I have no idea why they said that, but the above might figure in to that statement.
Personally, the first time I grow a strain from seed, I let it go natural. I want to see how the plant wants to grow on its own, and then the next round I make the choice to train or not.
I always say ‘I’m letting it grow natural the first time’ but I usually end up training anyway. I just can’t let it slide when I see that a little snip here and binding down something there would help. And once you start, you can’t stop or the whole thing grows to a 70s bush.
But then again I only grow 1 plant at a time because of light restrictions. And am I really gonna sit there and watch my only plant grow without doing anything for months? I can’t.
I agree. It’s hard to think that I won’t be maximizing my yield but I’ll try to behave myself.
haha, the temptations. I know! I’ve done the same thing…. little here, pull a leaf there… so hard not to touch them. lol, cheers
Thank you so much Chad – big fan!!!
Thanks Chad – love your content!!!
Thank you for the smiles! I’m stoked that you are growing and you came to the right place with your questions. Happy gardening 🙂
Sometimes I just clip something heavy to the top and gravity dose the rest
it can depend on alot of things there will be more tops but there is more mass by half all those branches all that leaf stripping plus when do you want your weed if your gona top it takes at least an extra month grimmreaper are good genetics so hear is a tip a thai genetic is going two grow like you never seen grow so flip two 12/12 with room two spare.. i always go like this fabric pot is 10″ high at the highest point in my tent when the lights are hung at the top there is in my 4×4 like 5′ feet of space my lite needs two be 18″ away can not be any closer so that is 2 feet 6″ of space a plant like a thai will dubble in hight quick mabey more expect it for a christmas tree grow same thing with topping once your pass the shock.. if you top wait at least a week before you flip closer two 2 is better
