On the hlg website they sell a far red lamp for just 40 bucks and they say just using this 15 minutes at the end of the light schedule, and you are able to run a 13 11 light schedule, is there a benefit to adding this? Pretty cheap if it does add benefits, Would I really one have to use it 15 mins a day? Wondering what the DGC’s thoughts where.
This is what the description is from the hlg website says
HOW IT WORKS
Under normal conditions it can take up to 2 hrs to change Phytochrome state from Pfr to Pr. Flower Initiator helps change Phytochrome state from Pfr to Pr within minutes. This helps finish the flowering cycle faster and also allows for a 13/11 cycle.
I constantly confuse this with the Emerson effect, which also uses light in the red spectrum, but is not the same spectrum bands as what you are referring to. Ereson effect is 680nm and 730nm if I remember correct and what you are asking about is just the 730nm wavelength.
I understand the science, I have read the real world tests and on paper, it 100% works. I’ve actually got one of these lights on the way to test this for myself. Going into it, my hypothesis is that I will see no difference, whether that is measured in yield or decreased flowering time. But I’m game, Invisible Sun LED and GR420 are sending it for free, so why not.
My potential issue is that I’m not always on time to close doors at lights off, only 5-10 minutes sometimes, but I wonder if the bleed from other light will interfere with the “darkness” and red light in that tent for the 15 minutes this needs to work and serve its function.
We’ll see. Unfortunately it is going to take at least 8-9 weeks before any results would be known, it would then have to be retested and confirmed on my end.
I’m going to try it as well for 40 bucks, I’m definitely willing to experiment. Thanks for the input chad
would love to hear your results when your finished.
Did you guys see results with this ? I’ve just grabbed a invisible sun led too, I’m keen to see if it makes any difference, I’m already using uvb/uva through flower with good results, I’m led to believe far red can enhance the plant’s characteristics, flavour smell and effects etc…
Outdoor plants will receive this kind of treatment during dawn and dusk so adding a supplement for indoor growing makes sense to me.
