Hey DGC, I am out of pH down. Is there anything I can use safely for a couple of waterings?
Tap is 7.6. In 7 gals it takes 15-25 ml of pH down generally to get it down to around 5.6 where I usually water in. I am in coco perlite.
Would vinegar work. I have about 5 ml of pH down left but will have to have something else to get it in range the extra bloom doesn’t get it below 6.6 usually. I hate to switch anything since I am 5 weeks past flip. I also hate to drive an hour when I will be there in a few days anyway.
I may be able to get away with using a substitute just one watering and wait till thurs evening after I get the pH down to water again.
What should I do guys? Do I need to bite the bullet and drive up there before or order some online for double price and have it or is there something that will work?
You could use vinegar safely enough. Personally id drive to get the ph down myself but depends on the crop and how dank it is i suppose. Vinegar (acetic acid) will lower your ph though you could definately do this i have never personally though.
I would just be using it one watering at the most. I ordered some will be here wed but they will need watered tom.. I am hoping I can substitute it that once with no negative consequences.
Do you have Recharge on hand? You could add small amounts at a time to get the pH in range or maybe add a normal dose and not worry about it. 🤷🏻♂️
Recharge raises the ph I need to take it down. So if I mix up my nutes and they are hovering around 7 and I dump a full dose of recharge in it isn’t gonna matter that I have been watering in at 5.6 the whole time?
Oh whoops. I haven’t paid attention to pH in so long, but I thought I remembered it dropping. My bad.
Alright DGC I went ahead and payed the 5 extra bucks and ordered it for wed however that still leaves tomorrows watering. Can I get by by using a few ml of vinegar or should I just water in at 6.-7 with recharge in the nute mix ( Bout outta that too, holidays depleted my funds gotta order more tho soon)
They are 5 weeks in flower and I feed each watering in coco perlite at about 1200 last watering but seen some burnt tips so will be backing it back to 1000 next time.
suggestions? also will the stuff for spas or fish tanks work? I could have probably gotten that wasn’t thinking.
Pool stuff is chlorine based and not suggested. Also unknown extras like heavy metals are more possible.
Thanks for the info, I wont get anything like that then. Looks as if I will only have to use it one watering. That is if it arrives on time. Would vinegar be the best substitute it will be aprox 9 gals of water.
lemon juice is the way to go in my opinion. its whats used to drop the ph for rock wool cubes so you know its safe. its organic. it also has citric acid, malic acid and absorbic acid. citric acid and absorbic acid occurs in almost all life and is vital. (vitamin c).
Lemon juice#dgc fo shoooooo
I could get a lemon, but does that take it down or up and is lemon safer than vinegar?
Evern the fake shit
I’ve used organic cider vinegar in the past with no problems. Still use it when mixing less than a couple of litres of nutes. Its less acidic and doesn’t swing as much “PH down”.
Forgot to mention that I was using vinegar exclusively for quite a while.
I have some apple cider vinegar and lemon juice what would be the better of the two?
Lemons have citric acid acid drops it same as acetic acid in vinegar. Some lemon juice is safe enough for sure
Save your money and make it local
I DIY my own ph down
Battery acid (sulfuric acid) from the auto parts store
1 cup per gal distilled water
Oreillys’s atv/moto batt refill $6
That’s makes 4 gals

Thanks for the help everyone I used a drop or two of vinegar as my lemon juice had turned brown and I didn’t trust it. I got it down to 5.9 by rinsing the ph down bottle out so I tossed in some recharge and am hoping for the best. 15 bucks for a quart of down that should arrive tomorrow. I had never heard of making your own, and it is the same as what you buy? Bookmarking that for sure.. Thanks for the link. I will prolly just buy a gallon next time to save the trouble a quart lasts me around a year. If I was using more than I am I would make my own. Wish I could do that with gh bloom lol
