Hey guys. Love the show. Please help me.
So I recently turned the corner into week 3 of flower with my girls. Around this same time, the climate I live in started to become dry enough to drop my humidity to 31% in the tent with the lows reaching as low at 20%. I tried a few remidies to fix this that weren’t a humidifier (no space in the tent) but nothing seemed to work. This low humidity obviously affected the plants ability to uptake water because as you know the stomata start to close to conserve water in super arid conditions which stops them from uotaking water from the soil. This led to a serious overwatering issue. Like, really serious. All of this happened so fast that I barely had time to recognize the problem before it started affecting my plants. Now, I have since found a way to manage the humidity back to a constant 50% and dry out the soil, but it already did some serious damage in a vital stage of the plants life. Many of the leaf tips are burnt looking or shriveled up and the bud/leaf growth has been stunted for about 1-2 weeks now. Even though the plant color is improving and the plant looks healthier as a whole, I’m worried that it did irreparable damage to the plants and they may not recover and continue making buds as quickly as they were before. Should I call it now and start a new run of plants or is there the possibility they could make a full recovery? Thanks guys. I appreciate everything you do!
Serious bummer man! Looks like signs of root rot bases on what you said about overwatering, but It also makes me curious about light intensity.
Idk man I’ve grown a plant for a few weeks at 20% humidity before I got a tent and the only negative thing I saw was slow growth. It makes me wonder about drainage issues. Are those grow bags you’re using? Idk much about those, but even the cheapest fabric pot helps big time in terms of watering and oxygen for roots.
So whether or not to shut it down…any effected leaves will not recover and being into 3rd week of flower I think the plant isn’t in a state of repairing itself. Just for the sake of learning I might try some kind of root inoculate and beneficial bacteria, but I wouldn’t want to put any money into a crop that’s on life support. That’s my opinion, but I have zero experience with the symptoms in that picture.
I can, however, help with your humidity issue. I live in a dry climate and I don’t like humidifiers…don’t like filling them, don’t like one in a tent and don’t like cleaning them. So, I use an Exhale Co2 Bag. Once activated (30-45 days) this thing will raise your humidity towards 70% and you’ll be using the dry air around the tent just to bring it down. It’s a one time fee of about $40 and will last your entire grow.
I also recommend considering your watering practices and containers. I just think that if these plants indeed have root rot, they had to have been drowned for days.
Hope this helps and hope you get more help as well.
Thanks you so much. I actually already pulled them. And sure enough there was root rot. This is the first time I’ve ever had an issu with overwatering but I definetly learned a lesson on this one. I just set up a 3x NYC auto diesel run last night and I’m trying Coco this time around to see how it affects draining. Thanks for thr response man. I’m gonna try that co2 bag.
I grow in coco….much better drainage…I mix 60/40 perlite and clay balls….basically impossible to overwater unless that’s your goal..imho 🙂
Memes is right that Co2 bag will correct your humidity alright lol…
Right on, just a grow horror story to tell your kids about lol. I have a good one…My carbon filter straps gave out and the filter did major damage 7 weeks into flower…so sad that day. I still waited for the buds to finish up and ended up with seeded weed. Majorly lol! …I no longer keep the filter in the tent.
What nutrients are you going to use for coco?
I believe you’re supposed to use the hydroponic lines or coco-specific stuff.
…just wanna make sure you know ahead of time.
I’m using organic dry ammendment to pre-amend the soil and then I’ll too dress as needed. I just don’t really want to use bottled nutes. But if I find that the organic dry stuff isn’t working well, I’ll probably end up buying some to fix the problem. I’m still really new to Coco so it’s all an experiment at this point.
Organic dry stuff works great but you need life in your soil.
While i was reading your post i noticed you didnt post anything about temps, so ill give you a little info that you maybe didnt consider, hope it helps.
You have to keep your roots above 65f, as a minimum or it will seriously struggle with uptake(your entire room should always be 65+), then the right amount of water becomes to much, and quickly your problems stack up. If you room was warm enough some of the moisture in the soil would be evaporating also helping raise your humidity.
You should get atleast 1 thermometer plug and a heater, every time your night temp hits 65f it should come on till 70-75f.
For your next run keep your temps up and inoculate your plant with beneficial and the dry amendments should work better. good luck.
Jmystro goes into great detail about irrigation for coco plus much much more here:

(It’s in the comments)
Man that dude can write! I wonder if I just search JMystro if I’ll be able to read everything he’s ever typed up on this site🤔
😜
My Temps are always between 68-81F. The temperature has never been an issue where I grow. It was the humidity that really gave me an issue this time around. I did just put a humidifier in there today though and the RH is now sitting around 67-75%.
Good challenge there memes….halfway through the archives myself lol
👍🏼😎👌🏼💨
At this point try to limp it into a harvest and get something out of it if you can. It has time to come back some and you can still get something smokeable or at least good for edibles. If they end up dying well at least you tried and you gained some more experience in the process.
i guess i should have read the comments where you said you already pulled them. 😂 Well sometimes it is just time to start over fresh. I have been there too a clean reset is what it takes sometimes.
